International students often speak perfectly good French and still fail their assignments. The reason is rarely the language — it is that a French dissertation follows a form that is never taught explicitly, and that no other education system uses.
This is precisely what five years of literature at a French university trained our teachers to do. You learn the plan, the transitions, the introduction that announces without revealing — and you practise on your own assignments, not on invented exercises.
